Overview
Experience a culinary vacation in Spain’s historic white village of Torrox Pueblo, Andalucia. Savor "True Spain" through culinary classes and Spanish wine tastings at Casa Cebadillas. Learn how to prepare unique Mediterranean, Sephardic, and Moorish-Arabic dishes!
For a few weeks each year Casa Cebadillas opens its kitchen and guest quarters to a small number of students eager to share in the food, wine, and culture of one of Spain's most diverse and vibrant regions. The school’s one-week culinary program includes hands-on cooking sessions led by Christopher Carnrick and guided visits to markets, vineyards, shops and local restaurants. Guests will cook with wild Mediterranean herbs gathered from the garden; venture down the streets into local household salons for fresh salad greens; purchase fruits and vegetables from local markets; discover local olive groves; and learn about Spanish wines. Each day’s program offers something different; the prepared menus shared while taking in views of the white village of Torrox and the lovely blue sea. In the background you can hear goats and sheep herders in the distance, while savoring the exotic fragrance of fresh roasting local chilies nearby.
During the week, students are given an insider’s guide to the regional production of local olives and oil, cheese and wine, as well as tastings. A Spanish Wine expert, Steve Ochman, Director of the Wine Education Institute in Sussex and author and contributor to several Spanish wine magazines, will show you how to select the best the region has to offer… and how to locate these wines once you return back home. Also included is a field trip to a cortijo to watch a local family prepare a meal. Your culinary vacation in Spain offers this grand finale: cooking students get to plan and prepare a meal for a group of six locals!
The culinary classes are limited to four guests. All instruction is in English and free time to explore your surroundings is included. Recipes are geared for preparation at home to showcase your newly gained skills. The week begins with a tour of the village and a welcome dinner on Sunday night and ends after a “graduation” dinner on Friday.
Come discover the marvels of Andalucia's cuisine with Casa Cebadillas!
