Overview
Caifiordi la Scuola d’Arte is an art school located in the foothills of the Apennine Mountains in the Umbrian region of central Italy. The school is part of a 200 year old typical Italian farmhouse complex located just minutes away from the medieval hilltown of Pietralunga.
Beginning in April through October each year, Caifiordi offers courses in art potpourri, cooking, painting, photography, sketching and journaling, and surface design. Additionally, Caifiordi offers several tours of the hill towns of Tuscany and Umbria.
During your time at Caifiordi, you will travel to the Tuscan hill town of Arezzo, where the movie “Life is Beautiful” was filmed. There you will explore this medieval city and its delightful shops and churches. You will also visit the Bascillica of San Francesco to view the beautifully restored Piero della Francesca fresco cycle “The Legend of the True Cross”. Another day will find you having a picnic lunch in Gubbio at the remains of the ancient Roman ampitheater, the second largest after the Roman Colisieum. You will also have the opportunity to ride the funivia (a type of cable car) to the mountaintop church honoring St. Ubaldo, the patron saint of Italy, and to visit the Church of St. Augustine to view the prescipe, a typical Italian nativity scene meticulously crafted.
Depending upon your course selection, you may also visit Montone, Deruta, Umbertide, Cortona, or Assisi. Every curve in each road will bring another beautiful vista within view to delight and inspire you.
While in Pietralunga, you will have ample time to sample coffee Italian style, enjoy a drink at the local pub and get to know the friendly residents of this village. Your last evening will include a farewell banquet at Locanda del Borgo, your hotel home in Pietralunga. For this feast, Chef Paolo will prepare a special menu of local culinary specialties served with fine local wines. One of the highlights of your trip will be the day you will have to explore Florence. The galleries, restaurants and shopping will provide you with many memories of this trip.
You will be lodged in Locanda del Borgo, a fully restored 16th century palazzo located in Pietralunga. There you will meet Paolo, Simone and Manuele who will make you feel at home.
Each day’s activities have been carefully planned to allow time for you to come to know the lovely Umbrian culture, to experience the delicious local cuisine and to paint the breathtaking vistas.
